Random from paintings

WARNING: Exposure to extreme levels of inspiration can often produce varying responses including butterfly flutters, gut-wrenching emotion, shortness of breath, and boggling of mind. Proceed with caution.

Cargo Cult - Detail

Polymer clay and mixed media

Aprox. 5x7 on a 3x4 easel frame

I am quite proud to say that I did not use paint. I did use a glaze for polymer clay in some places.
The baby bird's head is so small, I had to stick it on the head of a small nail to work with it.

And now a bit of description:
I've been thinking about this one for a long while, wanting to do something around the idea of birds collecting found objects. Then Michael introduced me to the 1980 movie, The Gods Must Be Crazy (did you know that the rhino is the self appointed fire prevention officer? When he sees a fire, he rushes in and stamps it out LOL) and so I learned about Cargo Cult.

Here we have two scenes, the bird with her adopted "found" baby (removable) and a birds-eye-view of the nest scene. She is a collector of shiny and strange objects. She's easily confused and distracted, one might even say she's a bit of a bird-brain. Perhaps it has something to do with the toxic air she breathes. I hope she hears the cries of her real babies before it's too late for them.

But she's a bad mom, so I wouldn't count on it.

For 10+ years, it's been my pleasure to contribute to the fractal community with resources, tutorials, and administration work behind the scenes. Now I'm entering a phase in my career where I'm earning more from my traditional paintings and sculptures so lately, I create fractal art more for my own entertainment and relaxation than for the enjoyment of others. If you happen to find art in my gallery beautiful or symbolic, that's a bonus! If you like it, feel free to add it to your collection. :)

It's hard to express the gratitude and appreciation I have for all of you in the community who have taken the time to comment or befriend me. Though I'm sincerely thankful, I do realize that time is short and precious, and I would rather you spend your time here at dA looking through the FRACTALS of budding artists - please go out and encourage them with your kind words as you have treated me so kindly. This is why I'm turning off comments for the fractals I share from here on out. Want to chat about Apophysis or inquire about using a fractal for your project, please send me a PM or find me at:
