What need is there to say more?
The childish work for their own benefit,
The buddhas work for the benefit of others.
Just look at the difference between them.
If I do not exchange my happiness
For the suffering of others,
I shall not attain the state of buddhahood
And even in samsara I shall have no real joy.
The source of all misery in the world
Lies in thinking of oneself;
The source of all hapiness
Lies in thinking of others.
- Shantideva
(When the portions of this image fold inward on its center, they grow darker and create a form that is in a state of unrest and ugly to look at. But notice that as other layers expand and branch out, they create a beautiful light reaching out even past the confines of its immediate space and reality.)
you don't think so? I find that the middle portion is in some kind of dark turmoil. Heh, I guess bad things can have beauty too.... if not, no one would have enjoyed Shakespear's tragedies.
it has dark turmoil, but it still holds beauty...lovely designs and colors make it interesting to look at, and therefore give it it's sense of 'dark beauty' i suppose...
