From the Robot Junkyard Series
4.25 x 6 inch watercolor and ink over an acrylic wash.
An explanation of the process for those just joining
I presoak the watercolor paper and tape it to the board, sometimes, I give it a very light wash over the top for the sky. Once dry, I mix 2 or 3 colors of paint and give the canvas another light wash. While wet, I lay a sheet of plastic wrap on top, which makes the incidental shapes I'll use as my guides when it's dry.
The acrylic wash is great because I can draw and erase over it several times without damaging the paper. It also lets the texture of the paper come through, and it can be removed in areas (as well as ink) with a little alcohol.
My camera didn't do a very good job of picking up the subtle things you can spot with the eye. The best, in my opinion, are the teeeny-tiny sparkles in the paint on the unicornbot, the car, the green robot in the foreground, and a few other smalls.
There are also metallics that shine here and there, like in the cowbot, the banjo, the car bumper and the plank the bird's perched upon.
